INTERNATIONAL BURGER CHAIN GOES HEALTHY Burger Planet Adds Low Calorie Menu Items

INDIANAPOLIS--The fast food restaurant best known for its’ burgers, fries and soda has hopped on the health conscious bandwagon.

Burger Planet announced a new and improved healthy lifestyle menu for stores everywhere on Monday. The company also hired Personal Trainer Jayne Petersen as the official spokeswoman.

The fitness guru, made famous for her work with talk-show host Opal Whitcomb, has the approval of CEO James Mullenbach III. “Jayne Petersen and Burger Planet share a commitment toward health,” he said. “She fits perfectly in the company’s overall focus on healthy lifestyles.”

Middle-aged women have recently emphasized the importance of eating right. Accoring to Mullenbach III, Burger Planet understands the importance of its’ customers’ needs. This is one reason the menu of the multi-billion dollar company has been revamped.

New healthy choice items include white meat chicken breasts, fresh fruit packages, and gourmet salads. Customers have a low-carb option to enjoy the chicken wrapped in lettuce, or withhold mayonnaise for a 500 calorie reduction. According to Burger Planet Head Chef Gerard DuBois, the sandwich is one of a kind. “None of our competitors offer a similar entrĂ©e,” DuBois said.

The fresh fruit packets, consisting of bananas, grapes, apples, peaches or pineapple chunks, may be substituted for fries in all Burger Planet combo meals, or purchased individually for $3.99.

Salads can be purchased for under $5, and contain only 300 calories. Choices include a raspberry vinaigrette spinach salad with gorgonzola cheese and walnuts, a hot bacon spinach salad with dressing, and of course, the traditional Caesar.

Despite the focus on healthy foods, Burger Planet will still offer the world-renown staples that started its’ franchise. “We became famous because of a simple formula,” DuBois said. “Burgers, fries and soda.” According to VP of Market Research Thomas Snowden, the addition of healthy choices will add a variety for consumers and increase food options, not put an end to traditional burgers and fries.

Burger planet was founded in 1934 by James Mullenbach I and is currently headquartered in Gary, Indiana. The franchise offers jobs for over 48,000 people in all 50 states and 17 countries. Burger Planet has served 52 billion customers and counting.

  1. Colton-

I think health-conscious has a hyphen. Also, I'm not sure about this but I was thinking that we're writing the press release to announce things, so we don't need to say "Burger Planet announced..." as if we were writing a news story. I don't know though, just a thought. I like how you put in specific info about the new menu items' calories, and a quote from the chef! Good work!

  2. There was a spelling mistake on "according" in the third paragraph down. But overall, you did a great job! I liked that you supported your main points well with quotes, and how you were sure to mention that they will be sticking to their main traditional menu items as well.
