Fads and Traditions:

You know it as well as I do: There has been about a million different fads started in our lifetime. What starts them? Why do they only last a short period of time? Join me as we take a look back at the things that we have thought of as "cool," and "hip."

2nd Grade: The fad then was definitely thinking that Mrs. Batcher was hot. Things haven't changed much.

3rd Grade: There was probably 50,000 different ones when I was a 3rd grader. They ranged from Giga Pets to Pokemon Cards. I was never a fan of either, but I would get my fun out of "forgetting" to feed Andy Pajus Giga Pet.

4th Grade: How can we ever forget the yo-yo? Everybody in my 4th grade class brought a yo-yo to school, and spent most of Mr. Shequen's reading time practicing new tricks, such as "Walk the Dog," and "Around the World."

5th Grade: In the days of my 5th grade year, there really wasn't any new fads that took place, just a re-run of old ones. The yo-yo came back for awhile, and the silly puddy made an occasional appearance. My favorite was beating Mr. Barnett's team in basketball: Recess Style.

6th Grade: Everybody at this time was conjoined, (Meaning both Staples and Motley Elementary goers) and so there was a great knowledge of previous fads. A new one came out of nowhere however, and lasted all the way through Middle School: The Hackey Sack. How can we forget that little pouch with beads inside of it? Those things were actually being bought on Ebay for 3 figures! My personal best was 27, falling way short of Richie DeLeon's however, of 89. Our favorite game was 3 hack wack. I still have scars.

7th Grade: Competitive Recess Sports: We turned recess into war. When it was Springtime, we had the greatest kickball games ever. Tom, Matt, Brad, and Jordan were all on one team, and I (Who could have played with those bad A jocks) formed a band of retards together to play them everyday. I thought we might be in trouble when Dawn Dickey was our leadoff man.....err girl. When it was wintertime....look out......we treated those basketball games like the NBA Finals. I was this close to making official stat sheets, and hiring Mrs. Rollins to film the games. There were more brawls, and bloody noses then you would find at a England, Great Britain soccer game.

8th Grade: This was a boring year for myself, because I liked the upperclassmen. How was I to go through a year of school without Stephanie Irene Jares? The one fad that stuck out was half-court lightning. We played before school, during recess, and after school. Lightning was our life.....If you were good at lightning, you were like a God at that school.

9th Grade: The layered look: (That's how Mr. Klefsaas put it) No more jeans and t-shirt, it was now jeans and t-shirtS. I have still obeyed this fad religiously, and probably will forever. How can you wear a polo button down, without a white hanes t-shirt as it's sidekick? You can't, and you shouldn't.

10th Grade: The TP Era: I did more tping in my 10th grade year, then I ever did in my entire life. This was mostly in the summer, so it could count under 11th grade. During easter break, I think we did some sort of vandalizing every night of the week. How could you forget the 2 times we went to Mosacks, and Millesses, and the countless times we got the Quasts. (I don't forget the Farber run Steph, it's just that that was 9th grade.)

11th Grade: I'm surely not one to brag, but I must admit that Matt Edin, Shawn Motl, and myself started the following fad. Around The World Ping Pong: We were bored as T.A's one day 7th hour, so we figured we'd get Mr. Hoffmann in on a game of Around the World. Little did we know that it would turn into a world craze, capturing moments that will never be forgotten. We had games that included 20 + people. (That is, if you count Ben Enney)

Now: The new fad, as my good buddy Steph put it: Movie Night. I am a fan for many reasons: I never see movies, so I actually get to catch up a bit in the pop culture world. I love hanging out with my friends, and it is a very cozy place. Last but not least, Damon....

Note to reader: I know it's the size of a book, (Sorry Steph) but hopefully you enjoyed it.
